Tutorial: Setting Up Shift Tasks & Closers

Step-by-step guide for managers to configure templates, assign closers, and verify checklist completion

In this tutorial, you will learn how to set up shift-attached checklists, assign a team member as the Closer on the line-up, complete verification checks, and sign off on a shift.

Time to complete: 10 minutes

Step 1: Create a Shift Task Template

Templates define checklist items that materialize when a manager publishes the Daily Line-Up for a daypart.

  1. Navigate to Administration → Shift Tasks (/admin/shift-tasks).
  2. Click New Task Template.
  3. Fill in the template details:
    • Title: "Verify Line Cook Temps"
    • Description: "Log temperatures for all active grill and station line drawers."
    • Type: Checklist
    • Subtasks: "Grill drawers", "Salad station cooler"
    • Phase: Service
    • Assignment Scope: Shift (any roster member can contribute)
    • Verification Type: Numeric (Min 33, Max 40, Unit °F)
  4. Click Create Template.

Step 2: Assign a Closer on the Line-Up

Shift-attached checklists materialize on line-up publish. The Closer is set on the lineup roster, not in Schedule Builder.

  1. Navigate to Service Day → Line-Up (or Service Day Setup).
  2. Add staff to the daypart roster.
  3. Toggle Closer on the assignee responsible for end-of-shift tasks.
  4. Click Publish Line-Up.

Schedule publish still seeds manager daypart compliance only; staff obligations and closers follow lineup publish.

Step 3: Complete a Verification (Staff Workflow)

Staff complete tasks from Today or Service Day → Tasks.

  1. Find "Verify Line Cook Temps" under the Service phase.
  2. Open the task and enter a temperature:
    • In range (37) — check off immediately.
    • Out of range (42) — document corrective action, then complete.
  3. Mark the task complete.

Step 4: Review and Sign Off (Manager Workflow)

  1. Open Service Day → Line-Up for Daypart Readiness (when enabled), or Service Day → Tasks.
  2. Verify checklist completion and staff report filing.
  3. Use Close Service Day when all dayparts are done (when enabled), or Apply Sign-off & Lock on the workspace.
