Service Day Setup

Plan Lunch, Dinner, and Late Night lineups in one composer before service

Overview

Service Day Setup is the manager workflow for planning an entire service day at once — all dayparts for one location and date — instead of creating lineups one card at a time.

Use it when you want a single place to roster staff, set goals, designate closers, and publish each daypart before the floor opens.

/lineup is the canonical manager Service Day Workspace for planning, setup, readiness, live operations, and closeout at one location and service date. /lineup/setup is a retired separate workflow; older links redirect while preserving date/location context. Use the workspace's contextual daypart controls instead of treating single-card setup as a separate top-level workflow.

Open the composer

  1. Navigate to Service Day → Line-Up (/lineup).
  2. Click Set up today or choose a service date from the /lineup workspace.
  3. Confirm the location and service date in the header.

The composer shows three daypart panels: Lunch, Dinner, and Late Night.

Plan each daypart

For each daypart panel:

  1. Review the Roster (Front of House staff only) — employees are prefilled from the published schedule with reason chips: Scheduled, Through close, or Manual. Toggle daypart checkboxes to assign or remove staff.
  2. Designate a Closer for each daypart using the dropdown at the bottom. A ⚠ Closer recommended warning appears when a daypart has assigned staff but no closer selected.
  3. Add briefing items — VIP, event, 86'd, special, or note (at least one item before publish).
  4. Set optional sales goal, service focus, and manager notes.
  5. Save draft to keep work in progress, or Publish when the daypart is ready for staff.

Draft cards are visible to managers only. Staff see published cards on /lineup.

Sales goal suggestions (Optimization)

When Optimization hints are enabled, each daypart's Goals panel shows:

  • A reference line with the Optimization daypart target (total sales + labor % target) and a link to /admin/optimization
  • Use plan button to adopt the optimization target and re-split assignee goals
  • Re-split goals button to redistribute the store goal based on scheduled hours
  • Source badge showing where the goal came from: From optimization, From last week, or Manual

Assignee goals are split using hours-weighted shares (rounded to $10) based on scheduled overlap in the daypart window. Manually edited assignee goals stay fixed; the remainder re-weights across non-overridden assignees.

Copy last week

Use Copy from last week to pre-fill rosters and briefing patterns from the same weekday last week. Review assignees and items before publishing — schedules and menus change.

When optimization hints are enabled, copying last week shows a confirmation dialog before overwriting any optimization-prefilled or manually edited goals.

What happens on publish

Publishing a daypart (from the composer or a single card) runs the same backend actions:

  • Staff notifications are enqueued through the configured notification and destination policy for rostered assignees.
  • Compliance seeding — one staff shift-report obligation per assignee per service day (not per daypart).
  • Checklists materialize for the daypart from active templates.
  • Closer is recorded from the assignment flagged at publish time.
  • Audit log records lineup.published.

Draft saves do not notify staff or seed compliance.

Daypart readiness and close

The /lineup Service Day workspace shows readiness per daypart and outstanding staff obligations. Close Service Day persists end-of-day sign-off after all dayparts are complete. Service Day UX is always on; there is no UI feature-flag rollback.
